The Helambu highway in the Sindhupalchuk region was destroyed by a landslide caused by continuous rain. A landslide caused by flooding of the Indravati River at Tado Pahira in Phatakshila in the Zero Kilo district of the Municipality of Melamchi-13 blocked the highway starting at 6:50 am today.
The river broke a 20-metre section of the highway to Melamchi. According to Sindhupalchowk, the highway remained completely destroyed after the accident, according to the local police department.
Melamchi Police Investigator Tikaram Rai of the local police station said efforts are underway to open an alternative route for the convenience of travelers from Kathmandu to Melamchi.
